Rep. Eric Cantor meets with MSV to discuss SGR vote
20 November 2009

This afternoon, Rep. Eric Cantor visited with MSV leadership at the MSV headquarters in Richmond. Rep. Cantor reached out to MSV immediately following Thursday’s vote on the Medicare SGR fix and requested the opportunity discuss his position.
In attendance were: William Hazel, M.D. (MSV), Johnny Wong, M.D. (Richmond Academy of Medicine), Don Gehring (VCU) and Rufus Phillips (MSV).
The meeting was a candid discussion about the physician community’s ability to influence the legislative process on health care reform. Upon conclusion of the meeting, MSV and Rep. Cantor agreed to explore the possibility of holding a town hall-style meeting with physicians during which Rep. Cantor can continue the dialogue with physicians on health care issues.
Related to the meeting with Rep. Cantor, MSV received a letter from the Republican members of the House Ways and Means Committee, of which Rep. Cantor is a member.
The letter outlines the Republicans’ rationale for not supporting H.R. 3961.
